Jimmy Nelson Makes First Rehab Start
5 years agoOn the IL since June 28th with fluid buildup in his elbow, Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson made his first rehab appearance on Saturday, throwing one inning for the Low-A Timber Rattlers. The veteran lefthander struck out one batter, giving up one earned run with no walks.
Nelson had only just returned on June 5th after missing all of 2018 and the first two months of 2019 while recovering from shoulder surgery. Before this most recent injury, Nelson had been moved to the bullpen, after his first three starts back did not go smoothly, with a 9.75 ERA and 10 walks in 14 innings.
Even though his performance has been poor since his initial return this year, Nelson should get another crack at the starting rotation once he finishes his rehab, with Brandon Woodruff hitting the IL and likely opening a spot up.
