Joe Jimenez Blows First Save As New Closer
6 years agoDetroit Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez was named the team's closer on Monday following Shane Greene's move to the disabled list with a strained shoulder. He got his first opportunity to close things out in his new role Monday against the Blue Jays, but blew the save by allowing the tying run in the ninth inning on the back of three walks and a double. The Tigers managed a walk-off victory in the 10th, so Jimenez ended up with the win, but it wasn't a pretty debut for the former eighth-inning man. He's still the favorite for save chances in Detroit for the duration of Greene's DL stint.
