Joe Musgrove Could Join Pirates Rotation by Early to Mid-May
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates starter Joe Musgrove (shoulder) threw a simulated game on Wednesday and could join the team's starting rotation by early to mid-May if his strained right shoulder reacts well. The Athletic's Rob Biertempfel expects Musgrove to start a rehab assignment soon, though it's not clear how many outings he'll need in the minor leagues before he's ready. In any case, fantasy owners who've held onto Musgrove this long should see their patience rewarded soon. The 25-year-old has struggled as a starter in the big leagues (5.37 ERA, 25 home runs allowed in 25 starts), but he still carries some intrigue after his strong performance in the Houston Astros bullpen last season (1.44 ERA, 25.8 percent strikeout rate).
