Joe Musgrove Expects to Be Ready for the Regular Season
7 years agoAlthough he has yet to appear in a spring training tilt, Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (shoulder) expects to be ready when the season begins, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink. Musgrove most recently had a bullpen session on March 2 and will throw three innings in a simulated game this Friday. Although he hasn't pitched in a live game yet, Musgrove is still in the thick of things for the fifth spot in the Pirates rotation. However, Steven Brault (four innings pitched, no runs, no hits) has thrown well and Tyler Glasnow (five innings, eight strikeouts, no walks) has shown improved command in spring, so Musgrove has some catching up to do. He can still provide fantasy value if he pitches out of the bullpen, as he posted a 1.44 ERA and 25.8 percent strikeout rate in relief last season.
