3 years agoThe San Diego Padres recently made multiple attempts to sign starting pitcher Joe Musgrove to a contract extension, but talks did not lead to an agreement. Musgrove, who can become a free agent after this year, is making $8.625 million this year in his final year of salary arbitration. The Padres last offer was an eight-year extension in the range of $11 million per season, according to sources. The 29-year-old would likely be able to get much more on the open market, and he has a 2.96 ERA in 231 1/3 innings since returning from triceps inflammation with the Pirates in September of 2020. On top of it, Musgrove has been lights-out so far this year with a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings. The Padres still have some time to get something done with the veteran right-hander, but he'll be one to watch as the season progresses.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
