5 years agoThe San Diego Padres No. 5 starter could come down to Joey Lucchesi or Cal Quantrill. San Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Kevin Acee expects the top four rotation positions to be secured by Chris Paddack, Garrett Richards, Dinelson Lamet and Zach Davies. Both Lucchesi and Quantrill are homegrown youngsters that showed well in spurts last season. Lucchesi, 26, is coming off his second consecutive year with over 25 starts, holding a career ERA of 4.14 through 293 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old Quantrill debuted last year to a modest 5.16 ERA over 103 frames (18 starts). Fangraphs RosterResource has Lucchesi penciled as the No.5 starter and is echoed by his 227 ADP being nearly 400 picks earlier than Quantrill. With each arm coming from opposite sides of the mound and the game’s deemphasis of starting pitchers, it’s possible both will log significant innings in 2020. With his experience and performance history, Lucchesi is certainly the better fantasy bet.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
