4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi may be used behind an opener this season, The Athletic's Tim Britton reports Friday. According to Britton, the Mets will test this out in Saturday's game where Jacob Barnes will serve as an opener for Lucchesi, who has allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 11 in 8 2/3 innings this spring. Britton writes that manager Luis Rojas said at the beginning of Spring Training, "You want to keep everyone healthy out there. (The opener) is a smart thing to think about...I see it more as a strategy right now to win games and change some things." This could potentially be a boost to Lucchesi's value this year, as he looks to get back on track with a fresh start with New York.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
