Joey Votto Out For Game 1 Thursday
2 years agoCincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto (back) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Votto has been out of action for the last two days due to back tightness, and it remains to be seen if the 38-year-old veteran will return for the second game of the twin bill. On the season, Votto is hitting just .210/.332/.374 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored in 253 plate appearances over 62 games for the Reds. Mike Moustakas will get the nod at the cold corner in Game 1 and will hit sixth against Pirates right-hander Roansy Contreras. Moose is barely over the Mendoza Line himself this year and has gone 5-for-28 (.179) with no homers, three RBI and 15 strikeouts in nine games over the last two weeks.
