Johan Camargo Will Provide Modest Production As Long As He Holds Off Austin Riley
5 years agoJohan Camargo stumbled a bit in 2019 after two solid seasons to begin his career with the Braves. A brutal .663 OPS and an infield full of studs ahead of him on the depth chart led to a forgettable 248 plate appearances for the 26-year-old. He's in an interesting position for 2020, as his role on the team will likely be determined by what role the Braves think Austin Riley is suited for. If they give Riley a chance at regular at bats, Camargo will be relegated to utility infielder once again, and likely won't merit consideration in fantasy circles. Camargo's .233 brutal batting average has a very good chance at improving if he finds a bit more luck--he dealt with a .258 BABIP over the season. I don't foresee any uptick in his power numbers, as his ISO has remained right around .150 or so in his three seasons in the bigs. If he starts regularly, he could put up some decent counting stats in the potent Braves lineup (especially with the addition of Marcell Ozuna), but he will always play with Riley waiting in the wings.
