Jon Gray Holds D-Backs Down In Thursday's Win
4 years agoColorado Rockies right-handed pitcher Jon Gray picked up his first win of the year on Thursday when he allowed just one run on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks over 6 2/3 inning in a 7-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Gray actually worked a no-hitter through six innings, which is odd considering his fastball topped out at 92.8 mph, the lowest of his career. He also issued four free passes but he was able to keep Arizona off the bases and the scoreboard until the top of the seventh when David Peralta tripled and was singled in by Pavin Smith. The 29-year-old righty now owns a 1.54 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 12:5 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings to begin the season, which is quite impressive considering both of those starts were at home. He gets the Dodgers on the road for his next start, which should be a good test for him and should let fantasy managers know how for real his hot start is.
