3 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Jon Gray took the loss on Saturday when he allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in a 7-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. This was not Gray's day, nor was it the Rockies' day as they were blanked in both games on Saturday. Gray had issues with his control all afternoon, issuing three free passes and needing 73 pitches to get through just three innings. It was his shortest outing of the season, by far. He only allowed three runs despite his struggles but that was enough to hand him his fifth loss of the year. The 29-year-old hurler now owns a 3.71 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 50:25 K/BB ratio over 60 2/3 innings (11 starts). He's done a solid job limiting hits, runs, and walks on the season but his 19.9% strikeout rate is the second-lowest mark of his career. He draws the Rangers at home in his next start, which should be a favorable matchup.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
