Jonathan Schoop Hits Historic 23rd Homer in Win
5 years agoMinnesota Twins second baseman Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in a 10-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon. Schoop's homer goes down as a big milestone as it was Minnesota's 300th dinger of the year, marking the first time an MLB team has ever hit that many in a single season. Schoop is hitting .256 with a .781 OPS, 23 homers, 61 runs, and 59 RBI in 422 at-bats. The veteran second baseman has lost some playing time thanks to breakout rookie Luis Arraez but the latter's ability to play multiple positions has allowed Schoop to find his way into the lineup on most days. Schoop remains one of the better power-hitting second basemen in the league.
