Jonathan Villar Agrees With Cubs
3 years agoFree-agent infielder Jonathan Villar agreed to an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, pending a physical, according to a source familiar with the situation. Villar spent the 2021 season with the New York Mets, where he slashed .249/.322/.416 with 18 home runs, 42 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 63 runs scored in 454 plate appearances over 142 games. The versatile infielder can pretty much play all over the infield, but he's likely to see most of his time at the hot corner in Chicago, which is bad news for Patrick Wisdom. The Cubs are currently set with Andrelton Simmons, Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal up the middle. Depending on how much playing time he receives, Villar could be valuable in mixed leagues for his power/speed combination.
