3 years agoNew York Mets third baseman/infielder Jonathan Villar went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in the Mets 13-4 rout of the Pirates on Friday night. Villar, who recently rejoined the Mets on July 4 following a stint on the injured list due to a calf injury, had been struggling at the plate. Prior to Friday's game, Villar had gone 0-for-8 since coming back from the IL. The two homers were the seventh and eighth for Villar on the season. He now owns a .241/.327/.426 slash line with the eight homers, 17 RBI, eight steals, and 31 runs scored over 185 at-bats on the season. With J.D. Davis (finger) nearing a return to the Mets, and rumors that the Mets may be looking to add a third baseman before the trade deadline, Villar's regular playing time could be in jeopardy. He has been a tremendous addition for the Mets this season, so they will likely continue to find ways to get his bat into the lineup in some fashion. Depending on what the Mets do with Davis (or at the deadline), Villar's fantasy appeal in season-long formats could take a hit. He would, however, continue to be a sneaky DFS play on those days he is in the Mets lineup.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
