Jordan Montgomery Focusing On Command Over Velocity
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery has been focusing on his fastball command this spring, according to the NY Post. Montgomery has the ability to sit near 95 MPH with his four seamer, but the lefty said he tends to leave the ball over the middle of the plate when he's throwing at max effort. Instead, Montgomery said he'd be willing to sacrifice a little bit of velocity to have better command and keep the ball on the edges of the strike zone. The 29-year-old is looking to improve on his best season in the Majors as he posted a 3.83 ERA supported by a 3.69 FIP and 3.93 xFIP last season, while averaging over a strikeout-per-inning. Montgomery is a solid SP3 to target in fantasy drafts, but he'll be tested early as he's scheduled to make his season debut on April 10 against a strong Red Sox lineup.
