Jordan Wicks Working On Four-Pitch Mix
3 years agoChicago Cubs left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks, listed as the team's No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has become almost a new pitcher in the last seven months. The 22-year-old southpaw was the No. 21 overall pick in last year's draft. "I feel like I'm loaded up, weapon-wise," Wicks said. "Different than I ever have been." Wicks set a school record at Kansas State with 118 strikeouts in 2021, and he's working almost exclusively with a four-seam fastball this year. He's also developed an altered spike curveball and a new slider with "horizontal sweep." And finally, Wicks' changeup has been his bread-and-butter pitch, and he has no plans of moving from that approach. Wicks is an advanced pitching prospect with excellent stuff and command. If everything goes right in the minors in 2022, he could be an option for Chicago's rotation in 2023.
