Jordan Zimmermann Named Opening Day Starter
7 years agoIn a somewhat surprising move, Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire announced Saturday that veteran pitcher Jordan Zimmermann will start on opening day this season. It was widely expected that Michael Fulmer would get the nod, but elbow soreness has limited the former Rookie of the Year a bit this spring. Zimmermann was a disaster in each of the last two seasons, and especially last year when he allowed more earned runs than any other pitcher in baseball. But Zim has made some strides in spring training this year, and Gardenhire is turning to the veteran with confidence. Still, he's a dangerous bet in most fantasy leagues.
