Jorge Mateo Activated Thursday, Set For Major League Debut
4 years agoSan Diego Padres utilityman Jorge Mateo will join the big league roster ahead of Thursday’s contest against the Dodgers after having been held out thus far in 2020 due to a positive COVID-19 test. Mateo broke out offensively last season at Triple-A, compiling 62 extra-base hits in 119 games to lead to a career-best .834 OPS. Ty France, who was hitting .250 with one home run as a bench bat, was optioned to the team’s alternate site in order to make room for Mateo on the 28-man roster. It’s unlikely that Mateo enters the starting lineup on a consistent basis right from the jump, although he is a name to keep an eye on, especially in keepers formats.
