5 years agoOakland Athletics second baseman Jorge Mateo went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in a Spring Training game vs the White Sox Tuesday. Mateo has been opening eyes in A's camp as he competes for a roster spot. Through eight games the 24-year-old speedster is batting a cool .300 with a .417 on-base percentage. The sample size is obviously small, but if he continues to tear it up in camp the A's could find time for him at second base or in a super-utility role with the rosters expanding to 26 players this year. Mateo stole over 20 bases every season in the minors and has an 80-grade speed score from the scouts. He's a name to monitor for now and if he makes the roster would be an interesting late-round steals source.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
