Jorge Polanco Working Towards Return From Suspension
7 years agoMinnesota Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco hit a home run in his first start at shortstop in suspension rehab at Class A Fort Myers on Tuesday. Polanco is first eligible to be reinstated on July 5 after serving an 80-game suspension for violating MLB's drug policy. Eduardo Escobar has filled in exceptionally at shortstop for Polanco but the former has been playing more at third base since Miguel Sano was sent to the minors to regain his confidence earlier this month. Minnesota could leave Escobar at third while installing Polanco as their starting shortstop once he is ready to return. Manager Paul Molitor told reporters, “I’m hoping we find out in he’s in a place where he can help us next week. But if we have to buy 10 more days to make sure, that’s something we have to consider. That’s why it’s a day-to-day deal.” As per MLB's drug policies, Polanco won't be eligible for the postseason roster if the Twins make the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
