Jose Alvarado Allows Homer, But Hangs On For Save Vs Marlins
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado allowed two runs, but held on to collect his third save of the season Tuesday versus the Marlins. Alvarado was called on in the eighth inning to escape a jam left by Connor Brogdon. Alvarado picked up a strikeout to escape trouble and was sent back out for the ninth inning. The hard-throwing lefty allowed a single to Jesus Aguilar and a two-run homer to Adam Duvall and it looked like the combustible Philly bullpen was at it again. Alvarado settled down, however, and retired the next three batters to escape with a four-out save. The Phillies bullpen is a mess, but Alvarado seems to have the most trust from manager Joe Girardi at the moment. His sky-high walk rate could lead to bad outings, but he's the Philly reliever most likely to get the next save and should be rostered in roto leagues as a result.
