Jose Alvarado First Up For Saves In Tampa Bay
6 years agoTampa Bay Rays reliever Jose Alvarado was called upon to close out the game against the Houston Astros on Friday. Alvarado had been suspected to be the primary closer for the Rays, and this puts those questions at ease for the time being. With the Rays up by two runs in the ninth, Alvarado came on to get two consecutive outs. He proceeded to allow a walk and single before striking out Tony Kemp to end the game. Alvarado was dominant in 2018, posting a 2.39 ERA, and should be a top option for saves going forward. An improved Rays team this year should allow for plenty of opportunities as they try to build on their 90-win season in 2018. Alvarado should be owned in all leagues.
