Jose Alvarado Implodes In Ninth
5 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jose Alvarado had a night to forget Wednesday in a loss vs the Orioles. Alvarado was called on to preserve a 3-3 tie but instead gave up six runs, five earned, while only recording two outs. Alvarado's ERA shot up from 3.20 up to 4.85 after this disastrous outing. Alvarado is tied for the team lead with seven saves, but the Rays have been so sporadic with their bullpen it's hard to own Alvarado in any league except the deepest formats where saves are scarce. Alvarado has 17 walks in 26 innings and is giving up over 40 percent hard contact, not a recipe for success in high leverage situations.
