Jose Alvarado Showing Strong Velocity In Spring Training
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado seems to have good velocity on his sinker as he prepares for his first season in Philadelphia. Alvarado is in the mix for late-inning work with fellow newcomer Archie Bradley and Hector Neris. Bradley is considered the favorite for the closer job, but manager Joe Girardi hasn't disclosed much about his bullpen plans. Alvarado only threw nine innings last season but seems to be throwing the ball well this spring. The left-hander sat over 97 MPH with his sinker and threw two pitches over 100 MPH. His versatility will probably prevent Alvarado from being named the closer outright, but he should be a valuable arm for the Phillies and is a solid target in fantasy leagues that reward holds.
