4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Jose Berrios struck out seven batters in five innings of work to earn his fourth victory of the season against the Los Angeles Angels Thursday. Berrios allowed three earned runs on a trio of hits while issuing just one walk. The 26-year-old surrendered a leadoff homer in the first inning and a pair of hits and runs in the second but settled into cruise control for his final three frames. Berrios' fastball was nearly a tick faster than normal, and his curveball registered a spin rate above his season average- both offerings played like it, as they generated 43 and 64 percent whiff rates Thursday. Berrios improved to 4-2 on the season and will carry a 3.91 ERA and 56:15 strikeout-to-walk ratio into his next outing against the Orioles on May 25.--Tim Capurso
