4 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana (thumb) is scheduled to throw a two-inning simulated game on Thursday. Quintana threw a trio of bullpen sessions over the past week without reporting discomfort, and the Cubs are now focusing on stretching Quintana out so that he can pitch deeper into games. As long as Thursday’s game goes well, Quintana is slated to throw one additional simulated game before rejoining the Chicago rotation, making his season debut likely to come early in the week of August 16. That being said, the Cubs didn’t close the door on Quintana moving into the bullpen for this season, and with the team’s closer situation in flux, Quintana could be an interesting bullpen option for fantasy players.--Sam Chinitz
