Josh Harrison Prefers Trade If Pirates Aren't Contenders
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates second baseman Josh Harrison said he would prefer to be traded if the team doesn't expect to be in contention in 2018 or 2019 after the trades of starting pitcher Gerrit Cole and outfielder Andrew McCutchen. “In our minds, a rebuild implies you’re looking five years down the road,” general manager Neal Huntington told reporters. “This team is going to show up ready to go in spring training, ready to compete, ready to defy odds, just like that 2013 Pirates team did.” The Mets, Yankees and Brewers are among the teams interested in Harrison, who will be entering his age-30 season. He's also under club control for three more years, and the Pirates may gain more traction on him on the trade market in July if they hold onto him. Harrison has been a super-utility player for the Pirates, and that is what makes him most attractive to fantasy owners as well. He hit .272 with a career-high 16 home runs and a .771 OPS in 2017.
