Josh Sweat Won't Play After Life-Threatening Situation
3 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat (illness) will not play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after overcoming a "life-threatening" situation this week. Sweat was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night and underwent an emergency procedure, but he will not be able to take the field on Sunday. The 24-year-old missed the Week 18 regular season finale and had continued to deal with abdominal pain due to his illness, but no further details are known at this time. It's a blow to the Eagles pass rush going up against quarterback Tom Brady, as Sweat had career-highs in tackles (45), QB hits (13) and sacks (7.5) in 16 games this year. It's unclear if he'd be available in the Divisional Round next week if the Eagles pull the upset on Tampa on Sunday.
