Joshua Kelley Struggles In Week 2 Of Preseason
3 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Joshua Kelley struggled in his second game of the preseason against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday evening. With starter Austin Ekeler and veteran running back Justin Jackson being inactive, Kelley once again had a chance to prove himself. The former UCLA Bruin was unable to do that and finished the game with nine yards on seven carries. He also caught both of his targets for 12 yards. The sophomore had a nice training camp in his rookie year, but struggled during the regular season in 2020 and he has been outplayed by rookie Larry Rountree III thus far in the preseason. With an entire new coaching staff, Kelley's spot isn't completely safe and he will need a strong showing in the Chargers third preseason game in order to convince the coaching staff that he should remain on the team. Rountree and Jackson appear to be the safer bets to backup Austin Ekeler at this point and whoever wins the No. 2 spot will enter the season as one of the top insurance policies in the league.
