Joshua Kelley Taking The Lead For RB2 Duties
2 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Joshua Kelley had an efficient first preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams last Saturday (44 scrimmage yards on six touches), and he looks to be firmly in the lead for the No. 2 running back job behind starter Austin Ekeler. Kelley continued to get most of the first-team work of the three RBs vying for the No. 2 job, including Larry Rountree III and rookie Isaiah Spiller. "He's been sharp mentally," offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said. "He's running hard, decisive. It's been a really good camp for him, for sure." Most people assumed Spiller would be the team's No. 2 back to enter the season, but it might actually be Kelley. It doesn't mean that Spiller won't have a bigger role down the road, but those bullish on the rookie should be prepared to be patient.
