4 years agoWashington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto is firmly entrenched as a National League MVP candidate coming down the stretch of the season, with his 1.189 OPS tops in the Majors. After entering the year as a borderline first-round candidate depending on season-long league size, Soto will be in contention for the No. 1 overall choice come 2021. His .471 xwOBA entered play Thursday near the top of all hitters in the Majors, with the rest of many key Statcast metrics light up the screen. Other than a matchup versus Jacob deGrom on Saturday, the remainder of Soto’s regular-season showdowns will have him as one of the premier bats on the slate.--Jesse Borek
