Jurickson Profar to Get Plenty of Playing Time
7 years agoTexas Rangers former top prospect Jurickson Profar is the primary beneficiary from a playing-time perspective of recent injuries to starters Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus. Profar is expected to be the primary shortstop in Andrus' absence and will for the first time in his career receive consistent playing time at a consistent position. Coaches have been saying since spring training that the 25-year-old is more comfortable in the infield, and perhaps more time in the field will help Profar find the rhythm he's been lacking during his major league career. Unfortunately, the infielder is not hitting for much power on the season, but he's not a powerful player and has always produced pop with his smooth stroke and quick wrists, tools that tend to improve with being more comfortable at the plate. He went 2-for-5 with a run batted in against the Angels, the same game which saw Andrus go down, and hit second, so clearly the team has confidence in his ability. Profar may be an interesting cheap buy for players looking for a backup infielder with upside.
