Justin Smoak, Devon Travis Sitting
7 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays are giving first baseman Justin Smoak the day off on Saturday against the New York Yankees. There is nothing out of the ordinary here, just a routine rest day for the slumping 31-year-old who is just 3-for-29 since April 10. For second baseman Devon Travis, however, it’s more than a routine day off. Travis fouled a ball off his left foot on Thursday and has been out of the lineup since. Considering how bad he’s been this season (.216/.170/.386), it’s probably a good thing for Toronto’s offensive potential at the moment. This is far from a given at this point, but he may need to worry about heralded shortstop/second baseman Lourdes Gurriel as well, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI in his major league debut on Friday.
