6 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak had a hot series against the Detroit Tigers from June 30 through July 2, knocking in two home runs and a double. When Smoak plummeted back to his disappointing ways with an 0-for-7 series against the New York Mets, we thought maybe there was a chance it was a result of facing National League pitching he had never seen before. While it’s only been one game since, that theory is holding. Facing familiar American League East pitching against the New York Yankees on Friday, Smoak finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk. He now has three home runs in his last seven games (six starts). This is probably just a happy coincidence, but Smoak is obviously worth keeping an eye on just in case.--John Smith
