6 years agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Justin Smoak looked to be coming out of his season-long funk at the end of June when he picked up two home runs and a double in the span of three games against the Detroit Tigers. Perhaps it was the Tigers that seemed to temporarily wake Smoak up and not Smoak himself. In three games since (one of which he walked in his only at-bat), Smoak has gone hitless with two free passes. It should be noted that his last two games were against the New York Mets, so perhaps the combined 0-for-7 result in those outings could be a result of not being familiar with the National League pitchers he faced. Still, Smoak does not deserve the benefit of the doubt after disappointing fantasy owners all season long. He’s definitely a guy to keep an eye on just in case he returns to form against American League pitching, but we aren’t betting on it.--John Smith
