5 years agoHouston Astros starter Justin Verlander allowed four runs in seven innings pitched as the Yankees held off elimination with a 4-1 victory in Game 5 of the ALCS. The first inning was killer for Verlander, allowing a leadoff home run to DJ LeMahieu and a three-run blast that hit the foul pole to Aaron Hicks. From there, Verlander would retire 20 of his final 21 batters faced, striking out nine. The pennant was there for the taking for the Astros but Verlander's bumpy start sends the series back to Houston for Game 6.--Joey C - RotoBaller
