5 years agoHouston Astros starter Justin Verlander went seven scoreless innings and struck out eight batters, allowing just one hit, as the Astros defeated the Rays 6-2 to take Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The 36-year-old was dominant from start to finish, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning and picking up his eighth career ALDS victory. Verlander would be in line to start a potential fifth game against the Rays, but if the series does not go the distance, the 36-year-old would likely open the Championship series between either the Twins or Yankees. The Astros will start right-hander Gerrit Cole in Game 2, and he will go up against Rays left-hander Blake Snell.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
