Justin Verlander Has Successful Tommy John Surgery
4 years agoHouston Astros right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday to repair his right ulnar collateral ligament. Verlander attempted to work back from the injury earlier this season, before ultimately deciding to have surgery, which is expected to keep him out through the 2021 campaign. Verlander is slated to hit free agency at the conclusion of the ‘21 year, so the next time that he takes a Major League mound -- if he comes back, at all -- may be in a different uniform. In two full years with Houston, Verlander finished second and first, respectively, in American League Cy Young Award voting, reviving his career and becoming a premier fantasy asset. Should he recover fully, the next time that he could pitch will be as a 39-year-old come ‘22.
