4 years agoHouston Astros right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander said that he would shut down from throwing after sustaining a right forearm strain after his first start of the season. Per manager Dusty Baker, Verlander is “not progressing as quickly as he’d like” in his attempt to get back on the hill and avoid undergoing season-ending surgery. The update is concerning news for those who are holding out hope that Verlander could get back on the hill in 2020, although there isn’t much time remaining if the right-hander gets behind schedule. A cornerstone of most season-long rosters, Verlander’s absence has been considerable. While there has been no official announcement made yet, the prognosis is not trending in the right direction for the ace returning the mound in the near future.--Jesse Borek
