Justus Sheffield Will Make Spring Debut Thursday
4 years agoSeattle Mariners left-hander Justus Sheffield will make his first appearance of spring training as the starter in Thursday's matchup against the Colorado Rockies. Sheffield is looking to build off of what was by far his most successful season in the major leagues in 2020. Sporting a 3.58 ERA, a nearly two-run improvement over 2019, Sheffield's most important skill improvement has been in limiting free passes, as his walk percentage in the majors has dropped year over year from 21.4 to 10.7 to 8.6. Sheffield has also been quite successful in limiting elevated contact, with an average career launch angle of 8.6, well below the league average of 11.9. If he can maintain a handle on his control, this all could add up to a fantasy worthy 2021 campaign for Sheffield. Keep an eye on him as a late-round flyer.
