7 years agoHouston Astros reliever Ken Giles allowed three runs on three hits, recording zero outs Sunday against the Indians. Giles had not allowed a run since May 1st, when he allowed four runs against the Yankees. Giles had recorded six straight saves the past two weeks before Sunday but clearly did not have his best stuff. He allowed a leadoff double to the Indians Jose Ramirez, then back-to-back singles to Edwin Encarnacion and Yonder Alonso before getting the hook. The Indians would eventually score five runs in the inning and Giles ERA sky-rocketed up to 5.06. Giles is a quality closer but meltdown performances like this always will leave his status twisting in the wind at times. The team could easily turn to Chris Devenski, Hector Rondon or Brad Peacock to close games if Giles continues to lack consistency moving forward.--Joey C - RotoBaller
