3 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Kenta Maeda bounced back after a rough start last Tuesday to strike out ten batters over six shutout innings against the Royals on Sunday. Maeda allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out the ten, in the Twins 6-2 win. Maeda lowered his brutal ERA to 5.03 from 5.56, and his WHIP to 1.45 from 1.55. Despite the impressive performance, Maeda remains a risky start in all formats until such time that he can show signs of consistency. Coming off a solid 2020 campaign in which he put up a 2.70 ERA, a 0.75 WHIP, and struck out 80 batters in 66 2/3 innings pitched, many felt Maeda possessed the ability to return ace value in 2021. Obviously, this hasn't been the case in what has been an awful campaign so far. If Maeda can build off of Sunday's outing, by far his best of the season, fantasy managers may have more faith (and reason) to activate him. He is next scheduled to face the Tigers at home on Friday, a team he put up a quality start against way back on April 7.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
