4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Kenta Maeda was hit with his first loss of the season in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat to the Red Sox. Maeda pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs- two earned- on seven hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. The veteran right-hander struggled to keep the bases clear in the first two frames, as he surrendered five hits and a walk, escaping the first inning without a blemish before yielding three runs in the second, partly due to his own throwing error. Maeda settled down nicely the rest of the way, which will hopefully give him some momentum heading into his next start, scheduled for April 19 against the Athletics. Oakland has struck out 26.3 percent of the time, 20th in the majors.--Tim Capurso
