5 years agoThe Boston Red Sox are closing in on signing outfielder Kevin Pillar to a major league contract, Ken Rosenthal reports. Pillar spent the beginning of the 2019 season with the Blue Jays prior to being traded to the Giants, where the 31-year-old enjoyed career bests of 21 home runs, 88 RBI, 83 runs scored and 264 total bases through 161 games. Pillar could join an outfield core of Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr. and the recently acquired Alex Verdugo, who was part of the package coming to the Red Sox in return for superstar Mookie Betts in Sunday's blockbuster trade with the Dodgers. Pillar will look to earn a starting job with a positive performance this spring, but the veteran outfielder will have his value limited to only deeper fantasy formats for his production with stolen bases if he has a strong lineup surrounding him in Boston.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
