6 years agoSan Diego Padres closer Kirby Yates recorded his 15th save Wednesday by striking out the side against the New York Mets. Summoned to protect a one-run lead, Yates yielded two two-out baserunners before retiring the final batter. Yates was untouchable in April as the NL Reliever of the Month but stumbled in consecutive losses over the weekend in non-save situations. The recent hiccup has elevated his WHIP to 1.21 but he still sits with a tidy 1.42 ERA and 16.1 K/9.
