2 years agoAtlanta Braves relief pitcher Kirby Yates (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday, according to general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Yates' progress will give the Braves a couple of weeks to evaluate their bullpen situation before the trade deadline. The 35-year-old right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery early last year, and there's a chance he'll be a part of the Braves' late-inning bullpen mix in the second half of the season, but he's unlikely to be in the mix for save chances. Yates was an All-Star in 2019 with the San Diego Padres, when he had 1.19 ERA with a career-high 41 saves, but he missed all of last year and had a 12.46 ERA and two saves in 4 1/3 innings before his injury in 2020.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
