Kohei Arihara Records First Win, Strikes Out Five Batters
4 years agoTexas Rangers pitcher Kohei Arihara recorded his first win at the MLB level during Wednesday night's 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Japanese right-hander threw 5.2 shutout innings and allowed just three hits. He did not walk a batter and he struck out five. It was the first time that Arihara had whiffed more than one batter in a game. Overall, the 28-year-old has a 3.07 ERA with 14 hits allowed in 14 innings but his strikeout rate is modest at 12.3%. Arihara throws a lot of quality strikes but the lack of whiffs hurts his fantasy value. If he starts to rack up the strikeouts more consistently as he gets comfortable in the majors, he's worth a flier in deep fantasy leagues due to his homer suppression and excellent control.
