4 years agoChicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant will not be among the club’s starting nine for Wednesday’s contest against the Pirates and right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove. Bryant’s absence paves the way for David Bote to hold down the hot corner, but also for Cameron Maybin to make his first start with the club and for Steven Souza Jr. to return to the lineup for the first time since Aug. 16. Bryant got back into the lineup Tuesday after an extended absence, but wound up taking six at-bats with Wednesday likely just a maintenance day as he continues to battle a wrist ailment. His next chance to return to the mix comes Thursday versus Pittsburgh and right JT Brubaker.--Jesse Borek
