3 years agoFree-agent right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker (elbow) is rumored to be close to finalizing a deal with an Independent League team, and a deal should done in another week or two. Rocker is also on track to begin pitching in competitive games in June. The 22-year-old threw off a mound this winter and is ramping up in advance of this year's draft. The New York Mets took him 10th overall in last year's draft out of Vanderbilt, but they were never able to reach a deal with Rocker due to concerns about his right elbow. How he looks in an Independent League will play a big factor in where he's drafted this year. If he looks healthy and dominant like he did in college, Rocker will almost certainly be a first-round pick for a second straight year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
