Kwang Hyun Kim Lands On IL, Return For 2020 In Doubt
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals left-handed pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim was placed on the injured list prior to Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs due to a kidney ailment that landed him in the hospital. Initially, the team is optimistic that the southpaw will be able to return in 2020, although a timeline is unclear at this stage. St. Louis has reshuffled its rotation in his absence, shifting Dakota Hudson to pitch Sunday, with a bullpen game taking place for the second leg of the DH. Having been moved to the rotation for his last four appearances, Kim allowed just one earned run in 20 ⅔ frames as a starter. The club has a few starting options to take his place, namely Carlos Martinez, who is expected back next week from the IL and is in line to start Tuesday versus Minnesota.
